A new government task force has been set up to address mental health and addiction services for prisoners, during and after their detention. The taskforce will include representatives from a cross-section of government agencies, which include health and justice, in addition to contributions from NGOs and prisoner rights advocacy bodies. The taskforce hopes to implement the recommendations by the end of 2021.

Their work will build on research that has been previously implemented by government interdepartmental groups, who have examined mental health needs of prisoners during and in the aftermath of their detention. Judicial and health sections of the government will work together to implement these reforms.
